The conception of True Vine began with the Lord giving a desire and a vision for lost souls to young Minister James Byrd, Sr. In 1989 while as a delivery driver for United Parcel Service in the Arlington section of Jacksonville, FL, he began scouting the area for a place to conduct bible study on Wednesdays. The bible studies began at Abbington Square Apartment Clubhouse during the summer months.
Under the leadership of District Elder George Matthews and his father in the gospel Elder Harry Johnson, with a vision and his family, the ministry began to develop and take shape. The third Sunday of March 1990 the fellowship moved to an office complex on Townsend Blvd., where the first official worship service took place under the name Arlington Mission Church of God By Faith.
In 1993 the church moved from the office building to converting a convenient store into a place of worship on the same property and to date it’s still a place of fellowship. In 1995 Minister Byrd resigned from the Organization to pursue an independent fellowship with a new direction and a new name, True Vine Ministries, Inc. This was incorporated in November 1995.
The ministry then began to search for a church building at a permanent location; finally the Lord blessed True Vine Ministries in February 1997 with its current location on the Westside of the city in the Murray Hill. The Ministry operated as a hub for the youth in Murray Hill and the surrounding neighbors. The church provided football, basketball and cheerleader teams from 2000-2002 and a Child Care Center operated by Sister Siteria Byrd as Director from 2002-2013.
In 2011 Minster Byrd and the True Vine Church family applied for reinstatement with the Church of God By Faith Organization, and with the Governing Board’s approval, True Vine Ministries, Inc. was welcomed back at the Atlanta Convention.
