  Chris Long of BBC Music reviewed the album in May 2009 and found that "Stranger Than Kindness" was a "twisted love music. Directly each stunning and startling, it's a track that seems like a held breath, by no means letting slip the facility that swells inside it".
  In 1995, Lane contributed vocals to Harvey's Serge Gainsbourg tribute album Intoxicated Man.
